{Engagement}

Gosh, I'm so excited for this blog post! It marks the start of a new tradition with all of my wedding clients; Engagement Adventures! You're reading this and thinking, what the heck is an Engagement Adventure? Well, instead of us just going to a local park for a couple of hours, we now take the entire day to go somewhere amazing. So do you want to go to Ocean Shores, Mt. Rainier, or the Gorge? Let's do it! This gives us the opportunity to really get to know each other, so that when I show up on your wedding day I'm not just "the photographer", but instead I'm "Nate", your friend that spent an entire day with you to ensure you got amazing engagement photos!

In this case, Will & Shelby wanted to go to Bellingham because that's where they met, and also where they both went to college. I've been to Mt. Baker a ton for winter skiing and summer hiking / biking, but other than that I don't know much about the area. The first place we went was Artist Point, which is the highest drivable point at the Mt. Baker ski area. We spent about 3 hours up there, split between Picture Lake and a 20 minute hike from the Artist Point parking lot. On our way down the mountain we had to stop at Chair 9 for way too much food (Large Nachos, Jalepeno Poppers, 2 Large Pizzas and 2 Pitchers of beer) and to watch some college football.

We then headed down to Bellingham to catch the sunset at Larabee State Park. I had never been there before, but it took my breath away! What an amazing place! I had a hayday there, taking way more photos than I needed to, but it was worth it because we took some seriously killer photos!

We ended up spending the night just outside of Bellingham because there were just too many locations to squeeze into one day. This isn't something I can always do, but it never hurts to ask, right? We went back to Bellingham the next morning to take photos on the Western campus, where Will and Shelby showed me around Red Square, Old Main and the Library. Most the photos you see on campus were Shelby's ideas, which were awesome! It's always great when you guys bring ideas to the table. They may not always work out, but again, it never hurts to try!

After a couple hours on campus, we called it a wrap and headed home. The Engagement Adventure was a complete success. We took some amazing and unique photos at locations that were important to Will & Shelby, and we had the opportunity to get to know each other much more. All my goals where reached, and now I know that when I show up on their wedding day, they will be much more comfortable around both me and the camera, which results in much better photos!
